Councillors at Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council have agreed to fit railings around the memorial site at Woodland Road.
On 11 November 2018 an oak tree was planted there to mark the centenary of the end of World War I and in memory of those from the area who had died during war.
This week councillors approved work should take place to fit low-level railings around the paving stone. They chose a ‘small business’ that had supplied the best price. It came in around at £1,000 less than the next quote.
The council will pay £1,650 for the business to supply, fit and paint galvanised railings. Minutes from an earlier meeting said that councillors agreed to prune the oak tree every autumn.
Lampost poppies
At the same meeting councillors approved 100 lampost poppies to be bought and fitted at ‘entrance’ points in the community. Before Remembrance Day the poppies will appear on:
- The Highway
- Edlogan Way
- Llanyrafon Way
- Llanfrechfa Way
