Cory Scriven is standing in the Llanyrafon West Ward election for Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council as a Welsh Conservative Party candidate. Read why Cory thinks you should vote for him on Thursday 8 June 2023

Two candidates have been nominated for a vacancy with Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council.

Electors in the Llanyrafon West ward will go to the polls on Thursday 8 June 2023. Cory Scriven is standing for the Welsh Conservative Party and was asked to answer this question- You should vote for me in the Llanyrafon West Ward election because…– and this is his answer.

“You should vote for me in the Llanyravon election because Labour has arrogantly stopped listening to people.

“HAVE YOU HAD ENOUGH OF THESE LABOUR POLICIES?

“BIN COLLECTIONS FURTHER REDUCED – WE ALREADY HAVE SMALL BINS

“BAN ON NEW ROADS – NO CONSIDERATION OF THE ECONOMIC IMPACT

”BAN ON SMACKING – TO CRIMINALISE PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN JUST WANTING TO DEVELOP GOOD BEHAVIOUR AND KEEP LITTLE ONES SAFE

“BAN ON MEAL DEALS – RESTRICTING US ON HOW WE SPEND OUR MONEY

”HIGHER ALCOHOL PRICES – NO EVIDENCE THAT THIS WORKS BUT LABOUR KNOWS BEST

”PUTTING UP COUNCIL TAX FOR PEOPLE LIVING ON THEIR OWN – YES IF YOU ARE IN A SINGLE PERSON HOUSEHOLD LABOUR WANTS TO GET RID OF YOUR 25% DISCOUNT

”BRINGING IN THE SCOTTISH NATIONALIST GENDER RECOGNITION LAWS – LABOUR VOTED FOR THIS LAW BUT SEEM RELUCTANT TO TALK ABOUT IT

”The Conservatives have given hundreds of millions extra this year to councils, yet Torfaen Labour has decided yet again to put up your Council Tax. In the last decade, Labour has increased it by 50%, nearly twice as much as a similar council in England. What is there to show for this?

“Sadly Torfaen has some of the lowest school standards in Europe. We must address this as economic success is dependent on good education. Conservatives give parents more say in how schools run and publish detailed information on performance.

“Cwmbran’s business parks have proved successful over five decades. It is that single-minded vision, first provided by Cwmbran Development Corporation and then the Welsh Development Agency (abolished by Labour), which is so clearly lacking in Wales today.

“This area’s economy, tied down by M4 congestion, suffers in comparison with Bristol’s dynamic private sector around the M5. I’m sure you don’t need reminding that Labour spent £150m on the new M4 around Newport and then cancelled it. We see the consequences of that poor decision every day.

“You may wonder what all this has to do with the community council here in Llanyravon. It’s about accountability and the fact that there’s no organised opposition to Labour along with a lack of workable solutions to a whole range of problems. Community councils have an important part in that process.

“I will oppose Labour’s plan to ban parking on pavements. I want to create additional parking (and charging points) where there is unused public space and make it easier to get a dropped kerb.

“I will work with Torfaen to raise standards in local schools – particularly at secondary level. The Community Council can nominate school governors and I will take up that opportunity.

“I will work with the wider Conservative team to bring fresh ideas to Llanyravon in areas such as crime reduction, roads, the environment and anti-social behaviour.

“There is only one political party on this Council. That’s not great for democracy. For an alternative view, vote for me on 8th June.

“I can be contacted on this address: llanyravon.conservatives@outlook.com

“Thanks.”
