Scouts from the Glen Llwyd Scout Hut in Coed Eva wanted to do something for the local community.
They came up with a creative idea that needed good teamwork, budgeting, creative thinking …and knowledge of the aisles in Cwmbran Asda.
Tania Saxon, leader for the Freespirit Explorer unit at the hut, said: “They have been working on their global issues badge for the past few weeks. It was decided that they wanted to do something to help the local community.
“So we planned an evening visit to Asda, with £10 cash and a sheet with the alphabet on. They had to buy items starting with each letter of the alphabet, but they only had £10.”
The until was split into three groups and they headed off into Asda.
Tania said: “They decided that all items bought would be donated into the trolley at the front of the store for the food bank. It has been a good incentive for them to work together as a team with the fun of a bit of competition.
“They did really well. They all got at least 20 out of 26.”
Tania, Elaine Burrill and Stephen Johnson, the leaders agreed to give the winning team a pack of Freddos chocolate.
