The new season got underway at Greenmeadow Golf Club with the traditional captains’ ‘drive in’.

The club welcomed three new captains, Sean Palfrey, club captain, Sara Goode, ladies captain, and James Dury, junior captain. Jame couldn’t make the event so James Palfrey stood in for him. The trio all drove off from the 15th tee to welcome in the new season.

The day started by holding a Texas Scramble competition. Wes Davies, Alan Miskelly, Phil Gardner and Callum Thomas-Woods took first place with a net score of 55.4. The second place team had a net score of 55.9 and this was made up of  Larry Reid, Steve Freeman, John Day and Dylan Jones.

Earlier in the week the seniors, headed up by captain James Whitcombe, started the season with their competition being won by O Oakley over 12 holes with 27 stableford points.

Last season the junior team won the Gwent Junior Interclub Championships at Pontypool Golf Club. This got them an invite to the Welsh Interclub championships a month later at Builth Wells Golf club where they won. Captain, James Drury shot the lowest gross and Lucas Parry shot the lowest net of any player in the tournament. They went on to play in the Junior Team Golf Home Nations in Cheshire this April over five days where they reached the semi-final and then lost to Carrickfergus Golf Club from Northern Ireland in the third-place play-off.

A spokesperson for the club said: “The players and parents had a fantastic few days away representing the club, we are very proud of what they have achieved in such a short amount of time.”

In Cheshire, James Drury captained a young team of James Palfrey, Dylan Jones, Lucas Parry, Thomas Clark, Egan Thomas-Williams, Callum Thomas-Woods and Cody Jones.
