Players from Gwent Hockey Club are aiming to break a world record.

A squad of 16 men and women from the club will line up against a team from Hockey for Heroes and play non-stop for 60 hours. The current world record for the Longest marathon playing field hockey is 56 hours, 18 minutes and 45 secs and was achieved by Chelmsford Hockey Club in 2016.

Hockey for Heroes is made up of current and ex-military personnel

Tim Miller, from Gwent Hockey Club, said: “We’re doing it to raise money for charity.  Hockey for Heroes work to raise money for Help for Heroes, so half of the proceeds will go to them.  The other half is going to Torfaen & Blaenau Gwent Mind (the local branch of the National Mind charity).

“Hopefully, by putting on such a big show, we’ll not only raise some much needed cash for these charities, but do our bit to raise awareness of what they’re working towards.”

The attempt will take place over Easter weekend, starting at 9am on Friday 10 April and finishing at 9pm on Sunday 12 April.

Twenty-two players will be on the pitch at all times but throughout the 60 hours both teams can rotate their five subs anytime. Both team will enjoy a five-minute break for every hour they complete.

Can you or your business support the world record event?

The club have put together some options to encourage people to support the challenge.

  • £150 minimum will sponsor a shirt.
  • Can you donate any equipment or services that might help? For example lighting, power, water or event toilet hire.
  • Do you have a raffle prize?
  • You can make a donation to their fundraising page. page.

If you can help in anyway pleas email ghc.worldrecordattempt@gmail.com or tweet the club at @GHCGWR.
