Llanyrafon Primary School pupils interview Dragons rugby star Will Reed and his mum

Dragons rugby player Will Reed recently visited Llanyrafon Primary School, which he used to attend. Beth and Georgina, two year six pupils, got to interview him.

Will’s mum, Jane, teaches at the school. So once the pair interviewed him, they asked Mrs Reed some questions about being the mum of a rugby player. This is Beth and Georgina’s write-up for Cwmbran Life.

Questions

Q) What are your dream players to play with?

A) Past: Jonah Lomu Present: Garry Ringrose.

Q) What is the biggest stadium you have ever played in?

A) Loftus Versfeld in South Africa.

Q) How many times do you train and play matches in a week?

A) Four times a week for training and one match per week.

Q) When you play a game, what food do you provide ?

A) They give us breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Q) What names do people call you ?

A) Reedy or Reedo.

Questions and Answers for Mrs Reed, Will’s Mum

Q) What does Will do in his spare time, when not playing rugby?

A) He plays golf, likes to eat out in good restaurants, loves playing cards with his friends and likes travelling to new cities.

Q) Is his attitude the same on the pitch as it is at home?

A) Yes, very competitive and focused but more relaxed at home.

Q) How do you feel when watching him play?

Extremely proud, also very nervous and emotional.

Q) Do you go to every rugby game of his?

We go to as many as possible but not all abroad as it is hard to get somewhere like South Africa for the weekend.

Q) How does Will feel when he has to miss a match?

Absolutely gutted, frustrated but hopeful about the next match.

Q) What are your dreams/hopes for him in the future?

For him to play for Wales and to have a successful and safe career in the future, that would be my dream for him.

Will Reed Biography

Childhood

Will Reed was born in Wales on 3rd November 2001. He was a pupil at Llanyrafon Primary School, the same school we attend. Will continued his education at Croesyceiliog Comprehensive where he gained 11 GCSEs
and 3 A levels.

Family Life

Will’s family includes his father Steve, a PE teacher at Caldicot Comprehensive, his younger brother Sam, who is also a rugby player and studying Product Design in Cardiff University and his mother Jane who is a Year 6 teacher at Llanyrafon Primary School (AKA our teacher).

Career and Achievements

Will is remotely studying a Degree in Business Management and Finance at Cardiff University whilst still playing professional rugby around the world. He is 1.76m tall and weighs 80kg. He is 22 and plays number 10
(outside half/fly half)for Dragons rugby. Will has also gained his Welsh cap for the U20s Championship, a proud day for all the family.

Aspirations for the future

Will is focused on playing to the best of his ability for the Dragons, scoring more tries and building his kicking score to compete with the best number tens in the country. His dream would be to play for Wales and be
part of a World Cup Squad. He also fancies a spell of playing rugby abroad – France or Japan are on his bucket list.
