Mecca Bingo Cwmbran is huge! When you see the size of the room for the first time it would be easy to feel lost. But the staff give customers such a warm welcome that you quickly feel at home.  It was our first visit and Kim Jones, the general manager, put us at ease and within ten minutes of walking through the entrance we were getting ready for eyes down.

No dabbers needed

You don’t need a dabber and you don’t need to worry about the speed of the numbers being called out. We chose to try out the tablets and ditch the use of paper tickets. As it was our first time we used the ‘auto-play’ mode which meant we could play multiple cards at once but not worry about missing a number.

I needed 5 numbers to win £10 for two lines

The simple device showed our numbers being marked off and the ticket that needed the fewest numbers to win would always be in the top left of our screen. The screen also tells you what ‘game’ you’re playing for- one line, two lines or full house.

Nice and easy.

My wife had to shout out ‘house’ twice during our evening and left with a smile on her face and £15 cash in her purse.

A new summer menu

It’s not just a place to play bingo. The new summer menu is out with a tasty selection of meals. I tucked into the club’s bestselling meal- the ‘Codfather’. It was a lovely meal with an extra-generous portion of mushy peas and a couple of slices of bread and butter. There is no obligation to play bingo. Visitors can pop in for a drink and meal. The size of the venue means you will always get a table.

A  Lavazza machine is on its way to the club to improve their range of drinks. A £2.50 deal for a coffee and slice of cake is expected to be popular with customers.

Good value drinks

I was surprised at the range of drinks on offer including cocktails. It’s £8.95 for a bottle of wine and you can get four bottles of lager for £10.

The club pays out around £2,500 on the busiest session of the week- Saturday afternoon- and that includes one game for £1,000. In a typical week they will see around 2,000 customers.

We had a fun visit. It was a good laugh with lots of frustrated looks on our faces as we missed out on calling ‘house’ by a single number on more than once occasion. I did a lot of people-watching and enjoyed seeing customers of all ages chatting and laughing during the evening.

Special offer for new customers

It’s free to join and new members can enjoy a special offer. It’s £5 per visit for your first five visits (within two months). Your fiver covers all the main bingo games in your session.
