Cwmbran- A town with so many stories
It’s been one of those weeks where I scroll back through the stories on Cwmbran Life and am surprised by the range of interesting things that go on in our town.
It’s been a reminder of why I started Cwmbran Life many years ago. I was always spotting people doing things that I felt deserved to be put in the spotlight.
The people who live and work here do some great things to make Cwmbran stand out. I’m writing this in Cwmbran Library and it shuts in ten minutes so I’ve just picked out FIVE stories that have put a smile on my face over the last week.
- You know Peter Jones, the BBC1 Dragons’ Den entrepreneur? Well, he recently sat down with two Cwmbran women to chat about their investment. Yep, you start a business in Cwmbran, and you can end up sitting with one of the UK’s most celebrated investors.
- Can you name a famous chorister? I bet you’re thinking of Gareth Malone! Well, he recently chose a woman from Cwmbran to be part of an eight-person choir in a BBC1 series that went out over Easter. Read Rhiannon Chard’s story here.
- I went along to a special anniversary of Henllys Women’s Institute. I thought it was their 40th anniversary but was out by just another 40 years. This women’s group has been meeting for 80 years! I interviewed Libby Haines, the president, and learned about their amazing fundraising work and more.
- What does Padel mean to you? If you know, you know, if you don’t click this link to find out how Cwmbran is becoming a Padel-hotspot in the UK. It’s a sport that mixes a bit of tennis and bit of squash. We had two courts in Croesyceiliog but now the owners have invested in completing a third court due to demand from players.
- A new women’s walking football team has started in the town. I used to play walking rugby- and I hope to make a comeback one day. It’s a fab way to get involved for the first time or get back into these sports. Read about this new session here.
📅 This coming week, I’ve been invited to an interesting event at a Cwmbran primary school. Then on Saturday, I’m off to a school reunion. One of these events will be on Cwmbran Life next week, the other definitely won’t be!
Speak to all soon.
