A pre-planning consultation has started on proposals for 15 homes to be built on the site of a former care home in Cwmbran.

The site is the former Ty Gwyn Care Home in Fairwater. LRM Planning Ltd is asking for views on behalf of registered social landlord Bron Afon Community Housing before a full planning application is submitted to Torfaen Council. The council sold the land to Bron Afon for £50,000 to ensure the site would only be used for affordable housing.

Laminated posters have been placed around the site to invite comments. The proposal is for:

  • two two-bedroom bungalows
  • two two-bedroom houses
  • three three-bedroom houses,
  • four one-bedroom apartments
  • four two-bedroom apartments

Ty Gwyn was closed in August 2020 by not-for-profit housing, care and support body Hafod, which said the ageing building in Fairwater had reached the end of its life.

Visit the LRM Planning Ltd website to view all of the plans and site drawings. One consultation document says: “The proposed dwellings will be a mix of one and two-storeys in height, which will complement the scale and massing of properties within the surrounding area. This accommodation will be supported with provision of 27 vehicular parking spaces, 22 of which will serve the proposed dwellings. The existing road serving the Ty Gwyn Bungalows and the former care home is to be extended south, throughout the site.”
