Are you ready for the world’s “fastest 10k race” this summer?
Hundreds of runners have already signed up for this year’s Mic Morris race, which the organisers say is “the fastest race of its kind on the planet”.
The downhill race on Sunday 16 July starts at 9am in Blaenavon, with all runners expected to cross the finish line in Pontypool Park by 11am.
All participants will receive a medal and tech tee t-shirt for taking part in the event.
Proceeds from the race will be donated to the Mic Morris Memorial Sporting Trust Fund, directly benefiting aspiring young athletes in Torfaen
To ensure everyone’s safety, the following road closures will be in place between 8am and 11.30am:
- A4043 Cwmavon Road from the junction of Prince Street and New William Street in Blaenavon to Old Road in Abersychan
- Old Road
- Limekiln Road
- Freeholdland Road
- George Street
- Mill Road
- Hospital Road
- The northern section of Osbourne Road to its junction with Riverside
- Riverside
- Park Road leading up to Penygarn Road
Side roads will not be formally closed, but no vehicles will be allowed to access the route during the race.
If your travel or caring responsibilities will be affected by the closures, please contact Torfaen Sports Development on 01633 628936 as soon as possible, so that arrangements can be made for traffic management on the day.
Event organiser and Torfaen Sports Development Officer, Ben Jeffries said, “We apologise in advance to anyone inconvenienced by the road closures, but hope the advance notice for the event allows residents to make alternative arrangements during the small window of closure.
“Information will soon be posted to residents living on the closed roads and we will of course endeavour to open up each part of the route at the earliest opportunity.”
“The event promises to be a great day out for everyone involved. Whether you’re an experienced runner or a first-time participant, there’s something for everyone.”
In addition to the main 10k event, a buggy friendly 2km run for families is also taking place in Pontypool Park at 8:45am, at a cost of £2.50 per person.
