Volunteers in Cwmbran made sure that when supermarkets closed on Christmas Eve any unused food went to a good home.
They were volunteering on behalf of Tasty Not Wasty, based in Llanyrafon Methodist Church. I popped along to watch the operation in action.
About a dozen vans were mobilised to visit supermarkets all over Torfaen and even one in Newport. Shop staff had filled rolleys of items they knew would be out-of-date by the time they reopened after Christmas. The donations were brought back to Llanyrafon where about 40 people organised each item into bags.
Then the vans drove out to pick-up points where people who had been referred from or had self-referred themselves popped along to get their free food.
